Peach-Faced Lovebird

This very pretty small parrot native to South-western
Africa.
In the wild, Lovebirds live in groups of about 10
individuals and they stay with the same mate for life. They can
live for 15 –30 years!
Our
Peach-Faced Lovebird
Pedro came to us in April 2000, rescued by CITES from
Heathrow Airport. He was being smuggled into the country
(probably for the illegal pet trade) while he was still in his
egg. A batch of the eggs were confiscated and Pedro was hatched
out by the staff at CITES.
This is why Pedro is kept on his own (not with another
Lovebird) as he was hatched and raised by people and is a
social imprint.
As we have to keep Pedro on his own he gets lots of human
attention and frequently comes out of his cage for a cuddle and
play.
We call Pedro a boy but we don’t know if he is a boy or a
girl as you cannot tell the difference by looking at them.
