These lizards get their name from their spiky beards under their chins.

During mating season the males will puff them up and they will turn jet black or red.

They then nod their heads to bring full attention to their beards. They do this to impress the ladies and also warn off other males.

In the past people used to think their red beards meant they could breath fire – but of course they can’t!!
